Sundowns Doctor Breaks Silence With Update On Teboho Mokoena’s Knee Injury

Sundowns Doctor Confirms Teboho Mokoena’s Expected Return from Injury

Mamelodi Sundowns is set to receive a significant boost in Teboho Mokoena’s fitness, as the club’s doctor, Carl Tabane, has shared details about the midfielder’s anticipated comeback.

The Bafana Bafana player has been dealing with a knee injury that has kept him sidelined for key matches, including recent CAF Champions League games against Wiliete SC from Angola.

Tabane indicated that Mokoena may be ready to play again within a week or two, bringing hope to Sundowns as they aim to bounce back from a disappointing continental showing while staying competitive in local tournaments.

“He had a second setback on the same area where he was previously injured. We’re optimistic he can return in the next week or two, and we’re putting in efforts to expedite his recovery,” Tabane stated to the club’s media representatives, as cited by FARPost.

This update suggests that Mokoena’s time away from the field may be shorter than initially expected, although his return is contingent on his healing progress and the medical team’s evaluation.

The midfielder initially got injured while playing for Bafana Bafana during an international break, which limited his participation in matches against Eritrea and Egypt.

Despite the injury concerns, the 29-year-old played in Sundowns’ MTN8 final against Orlando Pirates, significantly contributing to the team’s victory.

However, Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso later mentioned that Mokoena had played through injury and hadn’t fully recovered from his knee issue.

Mokoena also took part in the match against Richards Bay in the Betway Premiership, but the injury eventually ruled him out of Sundowns’ two-legged CAF Champions League tie against Wiliete.

His absence was felt as Sundowns struggled in the continental tournament, resulting in a goalless draw in Angola and a 1-1 tie in the return leg, which led to their elimination on away goals.

Thus, Cardoso will welcome Mokoena’s potential return as he needs his seasoned players to handle a challenging schedule.

Beyond club football, Mokoena’s role is crucial for Bafana Bafana, making his recovery particularly vital ahead of South Africa’s upcoming qualifying matches for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations against Kenya in November.

Nevertheless, Sundowns will prioritize Mokoena’s full recovery over rushing him back into action.

For Masandawana fans, Tabane’s announcement brings renewed hope that one of their key midfielders will soon return, enhancing the team’s options for upcoming challenges.
