Kwayiba Strikes Twice as Stellenbosch FC Sink Durban City to Reach Carling Knockout Quarter-Finals

Stellenbosch FC secured their place in the Carling Knockout Cup quarter-finals with an impressive 2-0 victory over Durban City, thanks to a decisive second-half brace from Sinoxolo Kwayiba.

The Winelands outfit delivered when it mattered most, overcoming Durban City to keep their hopes of lifting the prestigious domestic cup alive. Kwayiba emerged as the hero of the encounter, scoring twice after the break to settle the contest and send Stellenbosch into the next round.

With a place in the quarter-finals at stake, both teams entered the match determined to progress in a competition that offers a valuable opportunity to secure silverware.

Stellenbosch, who won the Carling Knockout Cup in 2023, approached the encounter knowing the importance of maintaining their momentum in the tournament. Their determination eventually paid off as Kwayiba produced the decisive moments that separated the two sides.

After a competitive opening period, the match came to life in the second half when Kwayiba found the back of the net to give Stellenbosch the breakthrough they needed.

The goal shifted the pressure onto Durban City, who were forced to search for an equaliser while attempting to keep their cup ambitions alive.

However, Stellenbosch remained focused and continued to threaten, with Kwayiba striking again to complete his brace and establish a commanding 2-0 advantage.

The second goal effectively put the contest beyond Durban City’s reach, allowing Stellenbosch to manage the closing stages and protect their lead until the final whistle.

For Kwayiba, the brace represented a significant contribution in a high-stakes knockout encounter, underlining his ability to deliver in crucial moments.

The result also provides Stellenbosch with renewed confidence as they prepare for the challenges awaiting them in the quarter-finals.

With the Winelands side now safely through, attention will turn to their next opponents and the possibility of another deep run in a competition they have previously conquered.

Stellenbosch have taken another important step towards Carling Knockout glory, while Durban City must now turn their attention to their remaining campaign.
