Seidu Agongo Begins Distribution of 10,000 Sewing Machines

Ghanaian businessman and philanthropist Alhaji Seidu Agongo has encouraged young people to develop their talents through hard work, dedication and perseverance, stressing that success is possible when ability is matched with commitment.

He made the remarks on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, during the presentation of the first batch of sewing machines under a nationwide initiative aimed at distributing 10,000 machines to vulnerable women and young people.

Mr Agongo said Ghana had many talented individuals capable of succeeding locally and internationally but noted that a lack of resources and opportunities often prevented them from reaching their full potential.

He urged young people not to underestimate their abilities but to invest time and effort in developing their skills and pursuing their ambitions.

According to him, achieving meaningful success requires more than talent, as determination, discipline and consistent effort are equally important.

The philanthropist explained that his decision to support young people and vulnerable groups was driven by the belief that providing the right tools and opportunities could help transform lives and promote economic independence.

The sewing machine distribution programme is being implemented in collaboration with the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP).

The initiative is designed to equip women and young people with practical resources to establish or expand tailoring and dressmaking businesses, enabling them to earn sustainable incomes.

More than 800 sewing machines were distributed during the initial phase, with additional distributions expected to take place in subsequent stages.

Interested applicants can access registration forms through Mr Agongo’s social media platforms to be considered for the programme.

Addressing beneficiaries, he encouraged them to use the machines productively, build sustainable livelihoods and extend support to others whenever possible.

He said the initiative reflected his longstanding commitment to sharing opportunities and helping people overcome financial difficulties.

Mr Agongo also expressed hope that the beneficiaries would use the support to improve their living conditions and contribute positively to their families and communities.

He emphasised that collective support and generosity could help create a society in which more people have the opportunity to succeed.

The sewing machine initiative adds to a series of interventions associated with Mr Agongo, who has supported educational programmes, vocational training, entrepreneurship and humanitarian activities over the years.

The programme is expected to benefit individuals seeking to enter the tailoring and garment-making industry, particularly those who lack the financial means to purchase essential equipment.

Some beneficiaries welcomed the donation, expressing optimism that the machines would help them establish businesses, generate income and become less financially dependent on others.

The nationwide exercise is expected to continue in phases until all 10,000 sewing machines have been distributed to selected beneficiaries across Ghana.

The initiative forms part of efforts to promote vocational skills, entrepreneurship and economic empowerment among women and young people.
