Reactions Trail After Festus Keyamo said Atiku Is A Sanitary Inspector Disguising As Economist
There have been several reactions from social media users after the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, took a swipe at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his economic comments.
Keyamo made this known in a post shared on his verified X handle on Thursday, October 29, 2026, where he described Atiku as a sanitary inspector disguising as an economist.
The comment comes days after Vice President Kashim Shettima and the Presidency criticised Atiku over his views on Nigeria’s economy and his call for the restoration of fuel subsidy.
Earlier, Shettima had questioned Atiku’s ability to manage a modern economy, pointing to his training at the Kano School of Hygiene.
Similarly, the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, criticised Atiku’s educational background, stating that his qualification before joining the Nigerian Customs Service was in sanitation rather than economics.
Meanwhile, Atiku Abubakar, who is the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), obtained a diploma from the School of Hygiene in Kano before proceeding to Ahmadu Bello University, where he studied for a Diploma in Law.
He joined the Nigerian Customs Service in 1969 and rose to the rank of Deputy Director before retiring in 1989.
Keyamo wrote; “SANITARY INSPECTOR DISGUISING AS ECONOMIST 😂”.
