President Ramaphosa EXPOSES Who Secretly Requested SANDF Troops In eThekwini

The South African National Defense Force (SANDF) is strictly providing support to the South African Police Service (SAPS), as President Cyril Ramaphosa has made clear; the deployment of armed military forces across eThekwini was initiated directly at the formal request of the municipal city council.

Ramaphosa justified the president’s decision to authorize the deployment of troops under Operation Prosper while speaking to community members and media representatives during an ANC campaign trail across KwaZulu-Natal. After a string of violent street protests, anti-immigration marches, and clashes along important commercial transit routes, the mayor and other city officials asked the president for national security reinforcements to keep the peace, safeguard municipal infrastructure, and avoid economic disruption. During a time of increased social tension, he stressed that the military is not supplanting police leadership or taking over main law enforcement responsibilities, but rather is helping to strengthen the state’s operational capacity.

In accordance with section 201(2)(a) of the Constitution, which regulates military support for civilian policing, the president has issued an executive order putting more than 500 SANDF members on standby in KwaZulu-Natal until late November at an estimated cost of R34 million. Public demonstrations, the safety of transportation corridors, and local businesses’ ability to operate without fear of violence or extortion are all goals of the troop presence, according to Ramaphosa. He brushed off concerns voiced by activist groups and political opponents who saw the deployment as an overreach and reassured citizens that the state’s security forces will stay within their constitutional authority to keep the peace and protect the public in the metro area until the elections on November 4.
