No Entry: You Will Be Turned Away at Raila Odinga Stadium With This Bag Type

Nairobi’s brand-new Raila Odinga International Stadium is officially changing the game for local sports fans and concertgoers.

Formerly known as the Talanta Stadium, the world-class arena has instituted a strict security protocol that could catch unpresuming fans completely off guard on match day.

If you are planning to head out for an upcoming event, you must ditch your standard backpacks immediately. Security stewards will enforce a rigid clear bag rule at all entry points to fast-track gate inspections.

Only entirely transparent bags measuring no more than 30 by 23 by 15 centimetres will be permitted inside the venue. This applies to both clear plastic tote bags and small transparent backpacks.

If your bag features solid, non-transparent fabric—regardless of how small or compact it is—stewards will reject it at the outer checkpoints. Heavy duffle bags, briefcases, and hard-sided cases are completely banned.

Fortunately, everyday essentials are safe to pack. You can freely bring your smartphone, keys, wallet, and a small, compact umbrella to combat Nairobi’s unpredictable weather patterns.

However, do not attempt to carry full-length golf umbrellas as they are forbidden.

Fans can also carry exactly one sealed plastic water bottle up to 750ml. All other external food and beverages, including thermoses, sodas, and alcohol, are restricted.

Should you accidentally carry a non-compliant item, you will not be completely stranded. Secure storage lockers have been installed outside Gate A and Gate C to hold prohibited belongings.

Using these lockers will cost you Ksh200 per piece. Stadium management maintains they are not responsible for any items left unattended elsewhere around the complex.

Crucially, the entire stadium setup relies strictly on a cashless system. You must ensure your M-Pesa, Visa, or Mastercard is fully topped up before arrival.

Cash will not be accepted for locker fees or any food and merchandise purchases inside the arena.

Planning ahead ensures you skip the long arguments at the entrance gates and focus entirely on the electric match-day atmosphere. Pack light, go transparent, and enjoy the game.
