Nacee explains why he has stayed away from secular collabo after ‘Boys Boys’ hit with Guru

Ghanaian gospel musician and producer Nacee has opened up about why he has largely stayed away from recording with secular artistes since the success of his hit song Boys Boys, featuring rapper Guru.

He explained that the decision is influenced by the expectations of his predominantly Christian fan base.

Nacee, known for his gospel productions and songs that have become popular in Ghana’s Christian music circles, said he had to consider how some gospel music lovers perceive artistes who venture into secular or romantic music.

He elaborated that a section of gospel fans see secular music as a sign that an artiste may be moving away from the spiritual calling associated with their ministry.

He said this perception has created a situation in which gospel musicians are often expected to make a clear choice between the gospel and secular entertainment, with some fans becoming uncomfortable when an artiste attempts to operate in both spaces.

He noted that the issue is particularly important because of the passion with which many of his supporters follow his music and ministry.

“The majority of our fans are so passionate that they want you to pick a side. So I have decided to pull back from the secular side just to resonate with my fans, who are majorly Christians,” he added.

His explanation is particularly notable given the success of Boys Boys, his collaboration with Guru, which demonstrated his ability to work with a rapper widely associated with secular music.
