Mpumalanga taxi boss Joe Sibanyoni’s Ferraris have been parked off following a preservation order by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).
The NPA’s asset forfeiture unit secured the order against Sibanyoni and his co-accused in an extortion case, including taxi fleet owner Oupa ‘Bafana’ Sindane.
The pair are among four charged with extortion and money laundering, with their case to resume in April next year.
It’s alleged the group demanded payments from the director of a company undertaking a road-construction project, which Sibanyoni defended as a ‘local content fee’.
The NPA has now frozen at least R99 million worth of assets, including several houses, estate properties and a fleet of luxury vehicles – including Ferraris, a Porsche and BMWs.

“The defendants are also required to surrender various bank accounts and investments to the curator appointed by the court. The restraint order advances one of the key objectives of POCA, namely to deprive persons of the proceeds and benefits of crime,” said NPA’s Kaizer Kganyago. The assets include properties in exclusive golf estates in Centurion, as well as several houses and estate properties in Centurion and Pretoria.
Luxury motor vehicles subject to the order include Ferraris, a Porsche, a Lexus, Mercedes-Benz vehicles and BMWs.
