Kumasi to experience ‘dumsor’ from October 30 to November 29

The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have announced planned power outages in parts of Kumasi from Friday, October 30, to Sunday, November 29, 2026, to facilitate the completion of a transmission line upgrade project.

The outages will affect communities along the 161kV Anwomaso-Ahodwo (K1-K2) transmission line route, where work on the project has reached 70 per cent completion.

In a joint statement issued on Thursday, October 29, the two power companies said the project is expected to be completed by the end of November 2026.

The planned interruptions, which will exclude weekends, are necessary to allow engineers to safely string transmission conductors on towers along the route.

According to GRIDCo and ECG, the work requires temporary interruptions in electricity supply to protect engineers, other personnel working on the project and members of the public.

Affected communities will experience outages between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on scheduled days when work reaches their respective sections of the transmission line.

The companies indicated that ECG would publish a detailed schedule showing the communities to be affected and the corresponding outage dates to help consumers prepare for the interruptions.

GRIDCo and ECG acknowledged that the outages could inconvenience households, businesses and other electricity consumers, and appealed for patience and cooperation throughout the period.

They explained that the transmission line upgrade represents an important investment in strengthening the electricity transmission network and improving the reliability of power supply in Kumasi and surrounding communities.

The companies apologised for the inconvenience and assured the public that they remained committed to completing the project safely and within the scheduled timeframe.
