The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has issued a five-day weather forecast warning of rainfall and thunderstorms in several parts of the country from Friday, October 30, to Tuesday, November 3, 2026.

The forecast, released on Thursday, October 29, covers all 47 counties and outlines expected weather conditions across the Coast, western Kenya, the Rift Valley, Nairobi and the northern parts of the country.

According to the meteorological department, several areas will experience sunny mornings followed by afternoon showers, while some highland and western counties could receive moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning.

Along the Coast, including Kilifi, Tana River, Lamu and Taita/Taveta, residents should expect a mixture of light showers, sunny intervals and partly cloudy conditions. Garissa is also expected to experience varying weather conditions, with daytime temperatures reaching 35°C in some areas.

In the south-eastern counties of Tharaka-Nithi, Embu, Kitui, Machakos and Makueni, mornings are expected to be largely sunny, with afternoon showers possible during the forecast period.

Northern Kenya will experience contrasting conditions, with Turkana expected to record the highest daytime temperatures of up to 37°C. West Pokot and Samburu are among the counties where light showers and thunderstorms may occur.

In the Rift Valley, Narok, Kajiado, Kericho and Bomet are forecast to receive moderate to heavy afternoon showers accompanied by thunder and lightning on several days. Temperatures in these counties are expected to reach between 24°C and 29°C during the day, while nighttime temperatures could fall to between 11°C and 16°C.

Trans Nzoia and Uasin Gishu are also expected to experience light showers and thunderstorms, with temperatures in Trans Nzoia dropping to around 13°C at night.

Meanwhile, counties around the Lake Victoria Basin, including Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii and Nyamira, are forecast to experience sunny intervals in the morning followed by light to moderate afternoon showers and thunderstorms.

Nairobi is also expected to experience a similar pattern, with daytime temperatures ranging between 27°C and 31°C across the wider region identified in the forecast, while overnight lows are projected to range between 15°C and 20°C.

The department’s outlook indicates that temperatures will vary considerably across the country, with hot conditions expected in the north and cooler nights in highland areas.

Kenyans have been advised to consider the forecast when planning outdoor activities, particularly in areas where afternoon thunderstorms are expected. The five-day outlook covers changing weather conditions through Tuesday, November 3.
