Kasim Gokyildiz resigns as Heart of Lions coach after eight games

Turkish coach Kasim Gokyildiz has resigned as head coach of Heart of Lions after just eight matches into the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.

His departure follows a difficult start to the campaign for the Kpando-based club, who have recorded just one victory in their opening eight league games.

Heart of Lions have collected eight points from eight matches and sit just one point above the relegation zone, leaving them under pressure to improve their performances.

Gokyildiz returned to Ghana ahead of the season after signing a one-year contract with the club, with an option for renewal.

He was appointed following the departure of experienced Ghanaian coach Bashir Hayford, whose contract expired at the end of his tenure.

The Turkish trainer previously managed King Faisal, Bechem United and Hohoe United before taking charge of Heart of Lions.

His resignation leaves the club searching for a new head coach as they seek to arrest their poor run of form and move away from the relegation zone.

Meanwhile, Heart of Lions will host Bechem United on Sunday at the Kpando Stadium in the Matchday 9 game, with kick-off scheduled at 15:00 GMT.
