Kalyppo truck overturns and catches fire on Accra–Kumasi Highway; two injured
A truck transporting packs of Kalyppo and biscuits has caught fire after reportedly hitting a pothole and overturning on the Accra–Kumasi Highway near Nsawam in the Eastern Region, leaving two passengers injured.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said the incident occurred near Frims Fuel Filling Station as the MAN diesel truck, with registration number GE-1393-P, was travelling from Accra to Paga.
According to the Service, the truck reportedly hit a pothole, veered off the road and overturned before catching fire.
Firefighters from the Nsawam Fire Station responded to the incident and brought the blaze under control. The two male passengers sustained injuries and were transported to Nsawam Hospital for treatment.
The GNFS estimated the damage to the truck at GH¢600,000, with its salvage value put at GH¢200,000. The poor condition of the road is suspected to have contributed to the accident.
The incident was one of three separate fire emergencies to which the GNFS responded in the Eastern Region, with the other two occurring at Bunso and Boso.
At Triple Court Guest House near Forest Gate in Bunso, a fire suspected to have been caused by an electrical fault destroyed a generator, two water pumps and other personal belongings. Firefighters from the Bunso Fire Station extinguished the blaze, with no casualties reported.
At Boso, a domestic fire behind the Salvation Army Church, reportedly caused by an electrical fault involving a socket, destroyed a television, a mattress and other personal belongings. No casualties were recorded, and no property was salvaged.
The GNFS has urged the public to ensure their electrical installations are safe and to exercise caution on the roads to help prevent fire outbreaks and road accidents.
