“I saw the ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa going house to house, just Stop him,” – Hlaudi Motsoeneng
African Content Movement (ACM) president Hlaudi Motsoeneng has criticised President Cyril Ramaphosa’s door-to-door campaigning on behalf of the African National Congress (ANC), questioning the approach amid ongoing economic challenges facing South African households.
Motsoeneng expressed his dissatisfaction with Ramaphosa’s visits to residents, arguing that the president was aware of the hardships many people were experiencing but continued with campaign activities.
“I saw the ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa going house to house, just stop him,” Motsoeneng reportedly said.
He also criticised the president for visiting homes where residents were struggling financially, referring to Ramaphosa sitting on what he described as torn couches during the campaign.
“He knows people are struggling but still does a door-to-door campaign and sits on people’s torn couches,” Motsoeneng said.
His remarks come as political parties intensify their campaigning ahead of South Africa’s 2026 local government elections, scheduled for 4 November.
Door-to-door visits are a common campaign strategy used by political leaders to engage directly with voters, hear their concerns and promote party policies. However, such activities can also attract criticism from opponents who question whether campaign promises will translate into meaningful improvements in people’s lives.
Motsoeneng’s comments highlight the political debate surrounding poverty, service delivery and the effectiveness of campaigning among communities facing economic difficulties.
The ANC has continued its campaign activities as parties seek support from voters across the country. Ramaphosa’s outreach efforts and the criticism directed at them form part of the broader contest for public confidence ahead of the elections.
