Ghana Signs Labour Agreement with Russia to Create Industrial Job Opportunities

Ghana has entered into a labour cooperation agreement with Russia’s Alabuga Special Economic Zone to facilitate the recruitment of Ghanaian workers for industrial and manufacturing positions.

Labour Minister Emmanuel Agyekum announced the agreement following its signing on Thursday, October 29, 2026, describing it as part of broader efforts to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.

The Alabuga Special Economic Zone is an industrial hub in Russia that accommodates 48 companies and has a workforce requirement exceeding 75,000, potentially creating employment opportunities for qualified Ghanaian applicants.

Under the arrangement, Ghana’s Ministry of Labour will oversee the recruitment process, verify employment offers and provide pre-departure orientation to prospective workers. These measures are intended to ensure that applicants receive reliable information and are better prepared before travelling to Russia.

Mr Agyekum explained that the agreement extends beyond labour migration, with both countries seeking to expand collaboration across several sectors, including business, education, research, religion and culture.

He said the partnership would provide a platform for deeper engagement between institutions and businesses in Ghana and Russia.

The minister also disclosed that Ghanaian businesses would have opportunities to participate in business forums in Tatarstan, where they could establish contacts and explore potential partnerships with Russian companies.

In the education sector, discussions are underway to promote academic cooperation, including opportunities for Ghanaian professors and lecturers to undertake joint research with universities in Russia.

The agreement is expected to strengthen bilateral relations while opening additional avenues for employment, knowledge exchange and commercial partnerships.

Mr Agyekum encouraged young Ghanaians to prepare themselves to take advantage of the opportunities that may emerge from the partnership.

However, prospective applicants are expected to follow the official recruitment arrangements coordinated by the Labour Ministry as the implementation process progresses.
