Speaking during an inspection of screening measures at Kotoka International Airport on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, the Minister said the government has strengthened surveillance and preparedness systems.
“To start with, let me make it emphatically clear that Ghana has not recorded any case of Ebola. There is no need, absolutely no need, to press the panic buttons. That notwithstanding, we have put a lot of measures in place,” he stated.
Akandoh explained that the current strain of Ebola in circulation has no vaccine and no specific treatment. He said Ghana’s best defence is prevention through early detection and contact tracing.
Thermal scanners have been installed at the airport to screen arriving passengers. The Ministry is also finalising electronic health declaration forms that will require travellers to provide health information before arrival.
The Minister added that laboratory testing capacity and isolation facilities, including the Infectious Disease Centre, are ready should any case be detected.
“We are ready. We are praying we don’t record any case, but if we do, we are ready to do the needful. So we should not be afraid,” he said.
The assurance comes amid reports of Ebola cases in parts of the sub-region. Ghanaian health authorities have stepped up screening at entry points to protect the population.
The public has been urged to remain calm and continue observing basic hygiene and health protocols. Further updates will be provided as the situation is monitored.
