Fernando da Cruz Sends Strong Message Ahead of Soweto Derby, Praises Orlando Pirates Coach

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando da Cruz has expressed confidence in his team’s preparations for the highly anticipated Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates, while acknowledging the strength of their rivals and praising the work of coach Abdeslam Ouaddou.

The French coach understands the significance of the clash between the two Soweto giants, describing it as one of the biggest football occasions on the African continent. With excitement building among supporters, Da Cruz believes his players have prepared well and are ready for the challenge.

Speaking ahead of the encounter, the Chiefs coach highlighted the enormous interest surrounding the fixture, revealing that tickets were reportedly sold out within six hours.

“It’s the most supported game. Sold out in six hours, one of the best games in Africa. It divides the country. It’s a good moment for South African football,” Da Cruz said.

The Soweto Derby remains one of the most anticipated fixtures in South African football, attracting passionate support from across the country. The rivalry between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates ensures that every meeting carries significant pressure, with both sides determined to claim bragging rights.

Despite his confidence, Da Cruz is aware that Chiefs face a difficult test against a Pirates team that has shown its quality under Ouaddou. He openly acknowledged the work done by the Buccaneers’ coach while maintaining that Amakhosi are prepared to compete.

“We have worked well and confident, we know it will be hard against a good team. A big team, I have to credit Abdes for the job. But we are ready for the game,” he added.

Da Cruz’s comments reflect his respect for Pirates, but he has made it clear that Chiefs will not approach the encounter with fear. His confidence in the team’s preparation suggests that Amakhosi are determined to deliver a competitive performance against their fierce rivals.

For Kaizer Chiefs, the derby offers an opportunity to make a statement and reward their supporters with a positive result. However, they will need to maintain their concentration, discipline and tactical organisation against a Pirates side equally eager to emerge victorious.

With tickets sold out and anticipation continuing to grow, the stage is set for another intense chapter in the historic Soweto Derby rivalry.

Although Da Cruz recognises the quality of his opponents, his message is clear: Kaizer Chiefs have prepared for the challenge and are ready to fight for victory.
