Cyril Ramaphosa told to stop flirting with grandmothers in a joke post

A social media post has jokingly told President Cyril Ramaphosa to “stop flirting with our grandmothers” after a video showed him interacting warmly with an elderly woman. The clip shows Ramaphosa sitting beside the woman on a sofa, while the person who shared the post adds exaggerated facial reactions and commentary to the footage. The video presents the president’s friendly manner towards the woman as if he were flirting with her, prompting laughter and agreement from some people in the replies.

What the post does not settle is what Ramaphosa and the woman were actually discussing, since the clip does not set out the content of their conversation. The post also does not say where the interaction took place or when. Those details matter because they would establish the context of the moment. Without them, the clip shows only the president sitting beside the woman, and the suggestion that he was flirting remains a joke rather than a serious claim.

Some viewers found the post funny, with some laughing at the idea of the president flirting with their grandmothers and others adding their own jokes in the replies. Some said the interaction was simply friendly and that the post had exaggerated it for humour, while others said the attention on his interactions with elderly women had become a recurring joke.

What has not been settled is whether Ramaphosa or the woman have commented on the post or whether the clip was shared with their permission. The post does not establish what they were discussing or whether the interaction was as warm as it appeared. The public is waiting to see whether the joke continues, because the clip has added to online reactions to his public engagements without any confirmation of what was happening.
