Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz has opened up about his regular meetings with sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr, revealing that their discussions consistently focus on improving the team and strengthening the club’s long-term project.

The French tactician’s comments come at a crucial moment for Amakhosi, who have faced mounting pressure from supporters following disappointing results and their recent elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup.

Da Cruz has welcomed the public show of confidence from Motaung Jr and the club’s board, insisting that the relationship between the technical team and management is built around regular assessments, commitment and the continuous improvement of the squad.

Speaking after Chiefs’ 3-0 victory over TS Galaxy in the Carling Knockout last 16, Da Cruz explained that meetings with the sporting director are a normal part of the club’s internal processes.

“You must know that I meet with the sporting director at least once every three or four weeks to speak about the team and the project,” Da Cruz explained, highlighting the importance of maintaining communication regardless of the results.

He added that their discussions are centred on finding ways to improve the team rather than simply reacting to individual victories or defeats.

“In our meetings, we always speak about the way in which we can improve the team,” the coach indicated.

Da Cruz welcomes Chiefs management support

The coach’s remarks follow Motaung Jr’s public statement reaffirming the club’s support for Da Cruz and his technical team after the painful continental exit.

Chiefs were eliminated by Zambian side Red Arrows following a penalty shootout defeat in the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup. The result intensified questions about the team’s progress and placed the coach under further scrutiny.

However, the club’s leadership has maintained its backing, with Da Cruz expressing gratitude for the confidence shown in his work.

He believes the regular involvement of management provides reassurance that the technical staff’s efforts are being recognised, even when results do not meet expectations.

The coach also stressed that a single result should not determine how his abilities are judged, pointing out that the team’s performances must be assessed over a broader period.
