A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to publish former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha as the winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary for Imo West.
Justice Obiora Egwuatu also ordered Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma to immediately stop presenting himself as the APC candidate for the Imo West Senatorial District election scheduled for January 16, 2027.
The judge issued the orders after ruling that Uzodinma did not win the APC primary conducted on May 18 and monitored by INEC.
In his judgment, Justice Egwuatu held that evidence presented before the court established that Okorocha secured the majority of votes cast in the primary and was therefore entitled to be recognised as the winner.
The court consequently directed the APC to submit Okorocha’s name to INEC as its candidate for the Imo West senatorial election in the 2027 general elections.
Justice Egwuatu further ordered INEC to immediately publish Okorocha’s name as the winner of the party’s primary.
The ruling is a setback for Uzodinma in the contest for the APC ticket in Imo West ahead of the 2027 general elections.
