All the National Security Operatives Assigned to Protect Kevin Taylor Have Been Changed- P.K Sarpong
New Patriotic Party-affiliated political commentator P.K. Sarpong has alleged that National Security operatives assigned to handle the arrival of controversial Ghanaian journalist Kevin Taylor at Kotoka International Airport have been replaced over claims that they leaked confidential information about his visit and reported security arrangements.
The allegation has intensified public debate surrounding Taylor’s reported entry into Ghana and claims that he stayed at the official residence of the Vice President.
According to information attributed to John Ntim Fordjour, Taylor arrived on a United Airlines flight, UA 996, from Washington, D.C., on an unspecified date. National Security personnel allegedly received him at the airport, facilitated his movement through Gate 19, a restricted lounge reserved for very important persons and other high-profile visitors, and escorted him to Prestige Link, the Vice President’s official residence.
The report further indicates that the residence is currently unoccupied because Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has been staying at her private home.
Taylor is reportedly subject to an active bench warrant for contempt of court in connection with allegations that he scandalized the judiciary. The circumstances of his arrival and reported security arrangements have therefore prompted questions about why state security personnel were allegedly involved in facilitating his movement despite the outstanding warrant.
Sarpong claims the operatives originally assigned to Taylor’s security detail were removed after suspicions emerged that they had disclosed details of his trip and the protection allegedly provided to him. He suggested that the changes followed the public circulation of information about the visit.
In his statement, Sarpong said the personnel assigned to Taylor upon his arrival and subsequent transfer to the Vice President’s residence had all been changed. He linked the alleged reassignment to accusations that confidential information had been leaked.
The controversy has generated mixed reactions, with some critics questioning the possible use of public resources and others arguing that the allegations deserve scrutiny. However, the government has not issued an official response confirming National Security’s alleged involvement or the reported reassignment of the operatives.
