2027 elections: Former governor Egwu, NDC candidates mobilise Ebonyi voters for Peter Obi
Former governor of Ebonyi state, Senator Sam Egwu, and two senatorial candidates of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor Bernard Odoh and Chief Linus Okorie, have vowed to mobilise massive support for the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and protect his votes in the 2027 general election.
The trio made the pledge on Thursday at a town hall meeting attended by Obi in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi state capital, where they expressed confidence in the party’s chances of winning the state.
Egwu, a former Minister of Education and former senator representing Ebonyi North, described Obi as a credible presidential candidate with a proven track record, declaring that the turnout at the meeting reflected the growing acceptance of the NDC in the state.
“Your Excellency, our incoming President, Ebonyi state is NDC and NDC is Ebonyi. Forget what any other person is telling you. You have seen it with your eyes today,” he said.
The former governor expressed optimism that Obi’s presidential ambition would usher in the new Nigeria Nigerians had long desired, adding that he believed the candidate’s emergence was divinely ordained.
“I want to believe that the new Nigeria we have been looking for is here with us. It is not by man’s effort; it is God that has destined it that way, and no power, no force can stop it,” Egwu said.
He urged party supporters to translate their enthusiasm into votes on election day and remain at their polling units to monitor the process until the results were announced.
“We will deliver that day. We will vote for Obi, stay and announce the results. After announcing the results, we shall follow to the various centres until the result is announced,” he added.
Also speaking, Odoh, the NDC senatorial candidate for Ebonyi Central and chairman of the town hall meeting’s planning committee, pledged that party members would stand firm to protect their votes and ensure that the people’s mandate was respected.
“We will all vote for our dear presidential candidate, His Excellency, Peter Obi. We will follow the result to wherever it is going until it is declared,” Odoh vowed.
In his remarks, Okorie, the party’s senatorial candidate for Ebonyi South, described Obi as a capable leader who could rescue Nigeria from its present challenges.
He assured the presidential candidate that the NDC would mobilise its members and supporters across Ebonyi state to deliver victory for him in the 2027 general election.
