1 person killed, 2 injured after tree falls in Springs
A man was killed and two women sustained injuries this morning (October 29) after a tree fell along Gold Street, next to the Ekurhuleni TVET College Campus, in Springs.
According to City of Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) media liaison officer Tikkie MacDonald, the DEMS Call Centre received a call about the incident at approximately 10:44.
Rescue crews were immediately dispatched to the scene.
“On arrival, crews found one adult male in his 30s trapped under the tree not presenting with any signs of life. The man was declared dead on scene,” said MacDonald.
“Two adult females sustained moderate injuries, and it is alleged that they are all vendors selling food, including the deceased.
“Both females were treated on scene and transported to a nearby hospital by Gauteng Emergency Medical Services.”
The City of Ekurhuleni’s Parks Department was called to the scene to assist with the cutting and removal of the tree.
MacDonald added that the incident has been handed over to SAPS, who will open an inquest docket at the Springs Police Station.
