Tinubu’s Planned Trip: Atiku Demands Daily Photos & Videos To Prove He’s Going To Saudi For Prayer & Not France

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has demanded that President Bola Tinubu’s administration release daily photographs and videos of the president performing the rites of Umrah in Saudi Arabia, following the announcement of his planned pilgrimage to pray for Nigeria.

Atiku, through Phrank Shaibu, Director of Strategic Communication of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Campaign Council, alleged that the planned trip could be used as a cover for a visit to France, insisting that information available to him raised questions about the president’s actual destination.

In a press release dated October 28, 2026, Atiku said there were reasons to suspect that Tinubu might make a brief appearance in Makkah before proceeding to France. He, however, did not provide supporting evidence for the allegation in the statement.

The former vice-president also raised questions about whether the trip was connected to Tinubu’s health and a reported $20 billion loan request involving a French business partner. He called on the Presidency to disclose the president’s complete itinerary and address the concerns.

Atiku argued that if Tinubu was travelling to Saudi Arabia primarily to pray for Nigeria, the Presidency should publish clear, recent and date-stamped photographs and videos showing him at the Kaaba and participating in the religious rites.

“Nigerians deserve verifiable proof of the President’s presence in Makkah and a transparent account of his daily activities in the Holy Land,” the statement said.

The ADC campaign council director added that Atiku and other Nigerians would join the president in prayers for the peace and progress of the country. He also cautioned against invoking the name of God in vain, arguing that a spiritual mission undertaken on behalf of the nation should be treated with seriousness and transparency.

Atiku further maintained that a presidential trip presented as an undertaking for the benefit of Nigeria was a matter of public interest, insisting that citizens were entitled to know the president’s daily engagements and how the journey was being funded.

He urged the Presidency to respond to the questions and provide what he described as the evidence Nigerians deserved.

The allegations and demands were contained in the statement signed by Shaibu on October 28. The statement did not include independent evidence establishing that Tinubu planned to travel to France or that the trip was linked to the reported loan request.
