These Mines Are Worth Tens Of Millions And They Belong To Indigenous Ghanaian Medium Miners—Kofi
Ghanaian commentator Kofi Ofosu has criticised the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and the Minerals Commission over reports that mining concessions belonging to indigenous Ghanaian medium-scale miners have been taken over, raising concerns about the protection of local investments and respect for legal procedures.
In a Facebook post published on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, Ofosu expressed concern about what he described as the use of armed individuals to take control of mining concessions. He argued that such actions could put investments worth tens of millions of dollars at risk and negatively affect Ghanaian entrepreneurs in the mining sector.
Ofosu questioned why the relevant authorities would take steps to assume control of mining properties without following the established legal procedures for revoking or terminating mining rights.
He maintained that miners whose concessions are threatened with termination should be allowed to challenge such decisions through the appropriate legal channels. He also pointed to the courts as the proper avenue for affected parties to seek injunctions and other remedies where necessary.
However, the commentator alleged that armed men had been deployed to take over some concessions despite ongoing legal disputes. He raised further concerns about reports that Chinese nationals and other individuals were operating on some of the affected properties, questioning the circumstances surrounding the alleged takeovers. These claims have not been independently verified.
Ofosu also questioned whether political influence could be connected to the reported developments. Although he suggested that the alleged actions might have backing from influential individuals, he did not provide evidence to substantiate the claim.
Emphasising the importance of the rule of law, Ofosu argued that government institutions and other parties involved in mining disputes must respect Ghana’s legal framework and judicial processes.
His comments have drawn attention to concerns surrounding mining rights, the security of indigenous investments and the need for transparency in the administration of mineral concessions. The circumstances surrounding the reported takeovers, however, would need to be established through independent investigations and official responses from the relevant authorities.
