Serwaa Amihere’s Fake Gold Chain Comment Sparks Debate as Ghanaians Rally Behind Aka Ebenezer

Ghanaians have applauded Aka Ebenezer, also known as Dr Likee, for showing remarkable maturity and exhibiting deep “home sense” in his response to Serwaa Amihere over her comment about fake gold chains.

The controversy began when Serwaa Amihere, a GHOne TV presenter and lawyer, advised young women against buying counterfeit designer bags simply to appear wealthy when they could not afford the originals. During her remarks, she referenced the numerous chains Dr Likee wears in his comedy skits as an example of imitation jewellery.

Her comments triggered reactions from several Ghanaian celebrities, including Afia Schwarzenegger, Efia Odo, and Mzbel, who weighed in on the controversy. The situation escalated as public figures traded words over the issue of fake luxury items and the implications of Amihere’s advice.

Amid the backlash, Aka Ebenezer’s reply stood out for its composure and wisdom. Rather than reacting with anger or engaging in a bitter exchange, he responded in a manner that many Ghanaians described as mature and grounded. His measured response earned him widespread praise, with social media users commending him for exhibiting what they called “home sense” — a deep, practical wisdom that reflects good upbringing and sound judgment.

Fans described his reaction as a lesson in how to handle public criticism with dignity, noting that he chose to rise above provocation rather than escalate the dispute. The phrase “Wonim Nyansa Paa,” meaning “you are very wise,” trended as Ghanaians expressed their admiration for his conduct.

The controversy has highlighted broader debates about authenticity, social media culture, and the pressures of public life in Ghana. While the exchange drew attention to the issue of counterfeit goods, it was Aka Ebenezer’s graceful response that captured the public’s imagination and earned him respect across the country.
