SASSA Moves November 2026 Grant Payments Earlier Ahead of Local Elections

Millions of South Africans receiving social grants will get their payments earlier than usual in November after the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) announced changes to its payment schedule. The adjustment comes ahead of the Local Government Elections, which are scheduled to take place on November 4, 2026.

The revised dates are intended to ensure that beneficiaries receive their grants on time and that payment services continue to operate smoothly during the election period. The changes affect older persons, people receiving disability grants and beneficiaries of children’s grants.

According to SASSA, older persons will receive their payments on Friday, October 30. Disability grant beneficiaries will be paid on Monday, November 2, while children’s grants will be paid on Tuesday, November 3.

Meanwhile, beneficiaries whose grants are under review will have to wait until Thursday, November 5, for their scheduled payments.

SASSA said the changes followed consultations with relevant stakeholders and received approval from the National Treasury. The agency explained that the revised arrangements were made to prevent unnecessary disruptions and ensure that eligible beneficiaries could access their money in an orderly and reliable manner.

The agency has also reminded people whose grants are under review to respond to official notices as soon as possible. Beneficiaries may be required to attend review appointments or provide additional information to confirm their eligibility. Failure to respond to these requests could affect the processing of their grants.

SASSA has further advised beneficiaries to avoid visiting its offices unless they have a genuine reason to do so. Payments will be processed according to the updated schedule, and unnecessary visits could place additional pressure on agency offices.

Beneficiaries are encouraged to follow SASSA’s official communication channels for accurate information about their payments. The agency has warned the public to be cautious of misleading information about social grants, particularly during the election period.

The announcement is expected to help millions of grant recipients plan their finances ahead of November. For many households, social grants are an important source of income used to cover basic needs such as food, transport and other essential expenses.

Beneficiaries are therefore advised to take note of their respective payment dates and make the necessary arrangements to access their funds.
