PSL Confirms How the Carling Knockout Quarter-Final Draw Will Work

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has announced that the draw for the quarter-finals of the Carling Knockout Cup will take place straight after the last Round of 16 match, between Durban City and Stellenbosch FC, on Wednesday, October 28, 2026. The match is set for 19:00 at Chatsworth Stadium.

Reports from October 26 say the draw will decide the four quarter-final matches and which teams get to play at home as the tournament moves into its key stage.

The final Round of 16 games are being played on Tuesday and Wednesday. Defending champions Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs are among the teams still fighting for a place in the last eight.

Four teams have already booked their spots: Golden Arrows, Siwelele FC, AmaZulu FC and Sekhukhune United. The remaining places will be settled by Tuesday’s matches involving Pirates, Sundowns and Chiefs, and by Wednesday’s game between Durban City and Stellenbosch FC.

The draw will use three pots. Pot A holds the seeded teams, Pot B is used to decide who plays at home and who plays away, and Pot C holds the unseeded clubs. Seeded teams are picked according to where they finished in the previous season’s Betway Premiership. Every other team goes into the unseeded pot, so each quarter-final will feature one seeded and one unseeded side.

The process works in steps. A ball from Pot A is placed into Pot B, followed by a ball from Pot C, and both stay unopened. The two balls are then drawn from Pot B. The first team out is the home side and the second is the away side. This is repeated until all four matches and their home and away roles are set.

With several of the country’s biggest clubs still in the competition, the draw is expected to draw plenty of interest from supporters. For the teams, a place in the last eight brings them one step closer to the trophy, and the draw will show who they must beat to get there.
