Nigerian Army Commissions Luxury Estate in Lagos, Urges Soldiers to Plan for Retirement

According to a Facebook post on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, commissioned the Nigerian Army Welfare Limited by Guarantee (NAWLG) Luxury Estate in Yaba, Lagos. The project aims to promote home ownership and improve the long-term welfare of military personnel.

Shaibu described the estate as an investment opportunity for serving and retired military personnel, as well as civilian investors. He explained that frequent postings and operational deployments often made it difficult for soldiers to establish permanent homes. He urged personnel to plan their finances early to ensure a comfortable retirement.

The army chief said the estate was designed as a modern community for military personnel and civilians, rather than another barracks. He noted that the arrangement would help retiring soldiers integrate into civilian society. It would also encourage social interaction and strengthen relations between the military and civilians.

Shaibu said the project aligned with his command philosophy, particularly the principle of sound administration. He added that it supported his Soldier First Concept, which links personnel welfare with motivation and institutional effectiveness.

While reaffirming the army’s commitment to providing accommodation for serving personnel, he urged soldiers to make legitimate personal investments. He also charged NAWLG management to maintain transparency, accountability and sound financial management.

He thanked President Bola Tinubu for his strategic guidance and support for the Nigerian Army. He also commended NAWLG’s leadership, developers, consultants and investors for bringing the project to completion. Shaibu congratulated the homeowners and expressed hope that the estate would provide a peaceful and comfortable living environment.
