“Ndio Hawa” DCI Narrates How They Managed to Arrest Robbers in Kisumu After Dramatic Chase

A robbery investigation in Kisumu took a dramatic turn after detectives cornered a vehicle believed to have been used in several robberies. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said on Wednesday that two suspects were arrested after a high-speed chase through Kisumu town.

The incident began after a woman reported that she and her friends had been robbed. Five mobile phones were taken during the incident. The victims told police that the suspects were travelling in a black Toyota Prado.

Detectives received information that helped them trace the vehicle. Their search later led them to a black Prado with registration number KDX 642Y.

Officers then moved in to stop the vehicle. However, the driver refused to obey their orders. Instead, he stepped on the accelerator and sped away. This forced the detectives to pursue the vehicle through the town.

The chase continued as officers tried to bring the Prado to a stop. According to the DCI, the driver ignored several orders to stop. Officers then fired at the vehicle’s tyres. The tyres were hit near Oile Park. The damaged vehicle soon lost control.

The Prado veered off the road before crashing into an electric pole. The impact damaged the front-right side of the vehicle. The crash ended the attempted escape.

Two men were arrested as they tried to flee from the wrecked vehicle. They were identified as William Onyango Odhiambo and Felix Owino Onyango.

Detectives later searched the vehicle. They recovered a black pistol and three mobile phones. The items were taken as exhibits as investigations continued.

The DCI said the two suspects were being held as detectives investigated their possible links to a series of robberies. The agency also said the investigation would focus on suspected cross-border robbery activities linked to the suspects.

The two remained in police custody pending processing and arraignment in court. The arrest adds to a growing list of operations by detectives targeting suspected robbery networks in Kisumu and surrounding areas.

The DCI said it would continue pursuing suspects believed to be involved in criminal activities and work to disrupt networks threatening the safety of Kenyans.
