Moniepoint Restructures Engineering, Product Teams For Faster Growth
Moniepoint, the Nigerian financial technology company, has announced a restructuring of its Engineering and Product functions to improve operational efficiency, accelerate product development and support its expansion into new markets.
The restructuring will introduce a platform-based operating model comprising smaller, focused product-area teams responsible for developing and managing their products from end to end.
The company said the new structure would give teams greater autonomy and clearer accountability while improving service reliability, speeding up innovation and ensuring more consistent services for its expanding customer base.
The move comes as Moniepoint evolves from a single-product business into a group of financial services companies providing payments, banking, credit and business management solutions to businesses and individuals.
According to the company, its growth over the past decade has been driven by proprietary technology developed in-house to address the scale, complexity and specific needs of African commerce.
However, as its operations expand, management said the existing approach to building and operating its technology platforms must also evolve to sustain growth and maintain service quality.
As part of the restructuring, Moniepoint will introduce platform architects responsible for designing and overseeing the technology systems underpinning each platform group.
The new positions will form part of the company’s broader Product Operating Model and architectural governance framework, which guides the development of solutions, platform capabilities and technical foundations.
The company explained that the changes were part of its regular strategic review of operations and were intended to align its organisational structure with its long-term ambitions.
Moniepoint has established a significant presence in Nigeria’s informal economy, with an agent network covering all 774 local government areas. It is also expanding its operations in Kenya as it seeks to deepen its reach across African markets.
Across its subsidiaries, the company processes more than $400 billion in annual digital payment transaction value, underscoring its scale and role in Nigeria’s commercial ecosystem.
Its financial services platform enables merchants to accept payments, manage cash flow and access tools to grow their businesses, while providing individuals with access to everyday banking services.
The restructuring, however, will involve changes to the company’s workforce, with some existing positions becoming redundant even as new roles are created to support the revised operating model.
Moniepoint said it would consider employees whose positions are affected for available opportunities elsewhere in the business wherever possible.
