MK Party Member Announces Exit for ActionSA After Duduzane Zuma’s Immigration Remarks

A woman identified as Mabongi Mthembu has announced that she is leaving the MK Party to join ActionSA, saying Duduzane Zuma’s recent remarks about illegal immigration prompted her to reconsider her political choices.

In a statement posted on her Facebook page on Sunday, Mthembu explained that she wanted to support a political party that takes seriously the concerns South Africans raise about immigration, jobs, crime and the country’s future.

She said the decision had not been easy, offering an apology to MK Party supporters while making it clear that she had chosen a different political direction.

“With a heavy heart,” Mthembu expressed her regret to supporters before confirming that the MK Party was no longer her political choice. She said she had carefully considered her options before deciding to join ActionSA.

Mthembu also emphasised that she wanted her vote to reflect the issues she believes ordinary South Africans are concerned about. According to her statement, the move represents an effort to align her political support with her personal values and hopes for the country.

“My loyalty is to South Africa and its people,” she said, explaining the thinking behind her decision.

Her announcement has brought renewed attention to the political debate surrounding immigration and the positions taken by parties competing for South African voters. Duduzane Zuma’s remarks are central to Mthembu’s explanation of why she reconsidered her previous political allegiance.

However, her statement reflects her personal decision and does not establish that other MK Party members are planning to leave.

For ActionSA, Mthembu’s announcement provides another opportunity to engage with voters who identify immigration, employment and crime as important political issues. For the MK Party, the development highlights how public statements by prominent figures can influence how individual supporters view their political choices.

Do you think Duduzane Zuma’s remarks could influence more voters to reconsider their political loyalties, or should party members judge political parties by their broader policies? Share your views in the comments.
