The Jubilee Party has appointed an inter-party coalition-building committee to spearhead engagement with opposition parties as political formations prepare for the 2027 General Election.
The committee was appointed during a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting chaired by party leader and presidential candidate Fred Matiang’i on Tuesday.
According to resolutions released by the party, the team will be led by Senator Kembi Gitura, with National Secretary General Moitalel Ole Kenta and Janet Ong’era serving as members.
Its mandate includes reviewing the draft Deed of Agreement for the Ukombozi Alliance (TUA) and proposing amendments where necessary.
The committee will also engage like-minded opposition parties to explore opportunities for cooperation and coalition-building, as well as develop proposals to strengthen unity among opposition formations ahead of the elections.
The move comes as Matiang’i steps up political engagement with Martha Karua’s People’s Liberation Party (PLP) and Ndindi Nyoro’s People’s Party of Kenya (PPK).
The three has been holding joint rallies in different parts of the country.
The three leaders recently appeared together at a political rally in Njoro, Nakuru County, where they called for opposition unity ahead of the 2027 elections.
Jubilee’s NEC said building consensus among opposition parties was important in preparing for the elections, reaffirming the party’s commitment to dialogue, cooperation and a common agenda for the country’s transformation.
“The committee is expected to report its recommendations to the NEC for consideration and further direction,” the resolutions stated.
The resolutions did not specify when the committee should submit its recommendations or which parties it would approach first.
Jubilee is also a member of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance, adding another dimension to its coalition-building efforts as opposition parties explore possible political arrangements ahead of the polls.
In separate resolutions, the NEC approved the appointment of Lucy Naisiae Kashu as interim chairperson of the party’s Women’s Caucus and Madina Yunis Mahat as interim deputy national organising secretary.
The two officials will serve in an acting capacity to fill vacant positions within the party, according to the resolutions signed by Ole Kenta.
Matiang’i, a former Interior Cabinet Secretary under retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, formally took over Jubilee’s interim leadership from Kenyatta on September 22.
Uhuru has been leading the party since his retirement from the presidency in 2022.
