“I Want To March With March And March”—MK MP Makes Public Declaration

MK Party Member of Parliament Mzwanele Manyi has publicly expressed his desire to join the March and March Movement, adding his voice to the debate surrounding the organisation’s demonstrations and campaign for stricter immigration enforcement in South Africa.

In a brief post on X on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, Manyi wrote: “I want to March with March and March.”

The statement signals support for the movement, which has held demonstrations calling for stronger action against undocumented immigration and raising concerns about foreign nationals working in sectors such as delivery services.

Manyi’s comment comes amid heightened attention on the movement’s activities in Durban, where repeated demonstrations have taken place outside the Department of Home Affairs Refugee Reception Centre on Che Guevara Road.

The movement’s protests have also become the subject of a legal dispute. Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia has approached the High Court seeking an urgent interdict to restrict marches, pickets, processions and motorcades in specified parts of eThekwini, including areas around the refugee reception centre.

The application names March and March leader Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma and other parties. It also seeks restrictions on conduct including violence, intimidation, looting, assault and damage to property. The requested restrictions are subject to the court’s decision and should not be treated as an order already granted.

Ngobese-Zuma has criticised the legal action, arguing that it threatens the movement’s constitutional right to protest. She has called on supporters to attend the court proceedings and accused the government of using legal processes to limit the organisation’s activities.

The dispute has placed renewed focus on the balance between the right to peaceful assembly and the authorities’ responsibility to maintain public order. While March and March says it is campaigning for stronger immigration enforcement, critics have raised concerns about the movement’s rhetoric and the potential impact of anti-immigration protests on foreign nationals.

Manyi’s post did not provide further details about whether he intends to attend a specific demonstration or participate in the movement’s activities. It nevertheless offers a public expression of support from an MK Party MP at a time when March and March’s protests and its legal dispute with the government are attracting attention.

The court’s handling of the application will help determine what restrictions, if any, apply to demonstrations in the specified Durban locations.
