HE COULDN’T TAKE IT ANYMORE Manqoba Mngqithi speak out On Why He Secretly Walked Away From Yanga

MNGQITHI BREAKS SILENCE! THE REAL REASON BEHIND HIS SHOCK YANGA EXIT REVEALED

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA — 28 OCTOBER 2026 — Former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi has finally opened up about his sudden departure from Tanzanian giants Young Africans, revealing that disagreements over professional standards and disciplinary issues played a major role in the separation.

Mngqithi’s departure came as a surprise to many football supporters, particularly after he helped Yanga achieve important objectives during his time at the club. Despite the team’s progress under his leadership, the experienced South African tactician has made it clear that keeping his position was never more important than protecting his principles and professional beliefs.

Speaking to Andile Ncube on Metro FM on Tuesday, Mngqithi explained that his exit was fundamentally about personal convictions rather than the team’s performances on the pitch.

“It was a matter of principle. I wanted to make sure my principles, beliefs and ethics remained intact. That was more important than holding on to a job, and that was basically why we parted ways,” he said.

His comments provide fresh insight into the circumstances surrounding his departure from one of Tanzania’s most prominent football clubs.

According to the former Sundowns coach, disagreements over how certain players were handled after missing training sessions became a significant source of tension between him and the club’s management.

Mngqithi believes that professional football requires strict standards, with players expected to fulfil their responsibilities and face appropriate consequences when they fail to do so.

He argued that allowing players to miss training without meaningful disciplinary action could undermine the culture he wanted to establish within the squad.

“The team needs to improve its level of professionalism. It cannot be normal for a player to miss training and face little disciplinary action,” the 55-year-old said.

He added that the issue was among the biggest disagreements between himself and the club’s leadership.

Mngqithi did not identify the players involved, and his comments did not establish whether the disagreements concerned any particular individual.

Nevertheless, his explanation suggests that differences over discipline and accountability became difficult to reconcile.

Successful campaign despite the disagreement

Mngqithi also rejected suggestions that his departure was primarily linked to football results, insisting that his relationship with the club’s leadership and staff had largely remained positive.

During his spell at Yanga, he guided the team into the CAF Champions League group stage and won the Community Shield against Simba SC, coached by Steve Barker.

However, a subsequent Kariakoo Derby defeat to Simba intensified speculation about his future, with his departure following shortly afterwards.

Despite the timing, Mngqithi maintained that the team had achieved most of its targets and praised the people he worked with.

He said he had communicated his concerns to the club’s leadership, emphasising that discipline and accountability were essential to maintaining professional standards.

His departure highlights the challenges coaches can face when their expectations regarding player conduct differ from those of club management.
