DCI Finally Arrests Man Who Made a Post About Kikuyu People in Rift Valley Ahead of 2027

Detectives have arrested a Nairobi man accused of publishing inflammatory content on Facebook, including threats and incitement targeting the Kikuyu community living in the Rift Valley ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The suspect, identified as William Owuor Ochieng, was picked up in Nairobi’s Central Business District.

He runs a Facebook account under the alias “William Jahome” and is alleged to have posted messages urging Kikuyu residents in the Rift Valley to leave the region before the election.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said officers from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB), working with the Operations Action Team at DCI Headquarters, carried out the investigations that led to his arrest.

He was taken to DCI Headquarters for processing and remains in custody pending arraignment.

The DCI described the content as a direct risk to public safety, citing its potential to inflame ethnic tensions and trigger violence.

Announcing the arrest, the directorate cautioned against the misuse of digital platforms to spread threats, incite violence or promote ethnic hostility, particularly as the country heads towards the 2027 polls.

It stated that it remains committed to protecting lives, maintaining public order and safeguarding national security.

It also warned that anyone engaging in unlawful online conduct would face legal consequences.
