Cardoso Explains Why Sundowns Gave Saleng Another Opportunity

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has made it clear that the club believes in giving every player an opportunity to improve, following the decision to give Monnapule Saleng a chance to prove himself at the Pretoria-based club.

Cardoso emphasised that Sundowns do not intend to exclude anyone, explaining that Saleng has been given an opportunity to address his shortcomings, develop personally and demonstrate consistency in his performances and training.

According to the Portuguese tactician, the decision reflects the club’s commitment to helping players recognise their weaknesses and work towards becoming better professionals. Rather than shutting the door on a player because of previous difficulties, Sundowns are willing to provide the necessary environment for improvement.

“We don’t exclude no one,” Cardoso explained, highlighting the importance of giving Saleng an opportunity to understand himself, overcome his faults and show that he can maintain high standards.

The coach also stressed the importance of systematic training and consistency. At a club with the ambitions of Sundowns, players are expected to maintain a strong work ethic, follow professional standards and demonstrate the discipline required to compete at the highest level.

For Saleng, this opportunity could represent an important moment in his career. The talented attacker now has a chance to demonstrate his abilities, improve his overall performance and convince the technical team that he deserves a place in the squad.

However, earning the trust of the coaching staff will require more than talent alone. Consistent performances, dedication during training and a willingness to learn from past mistakes will be crucial to his progress.

Cardoso’s comments also send a broader message to the Sundowns squad: every player has a chance to improve, but that opportunity must be supported by commitment and accountability.

As Saleng continues his journey with the club, supporters will be eager to see whether he can take advantage of the opportunity and establish himself as an important member of the team.

For Sundowns, the approach demonstrates a belief in development, discipline and giving players the chance to prove their worth.
