Bongo Reacts As Roads Ministry Says Viral Video Of Road Removed By Hand Was Filmed In Liberia

Ghanaian social commentator Albert Nat Hyde, widely known as Bongo Ideas, has drawn attention to a clarification by the Ministry of Roads and Highways concerning a viral video purportedly showing a road that could be removed by hand.

The footage has circulated on social media, prompting discussions about road construction standards and the quality of infrastructure projects. However, the ministry has rejected claims linking the video to a road project constructed in Ghana under its supervision.

In a statement issued by Kojo Danquah, spokesperson to the Minister for Roads and Highways, the ministry said it had become aware of the circulating footage and the impression it was creating among members of the public.

According to the statement, preliminary checks indicated that the road shown in the video was located in Liberia, not Ghana. The ministry therefore dismissed attempts to associate the footage with its ongoing or completed road construction projects in the country.

It warned that circulating the video with claims suggesting that it represented the quality of roads built under its supervision could misinform the public and damage confidence in infrastructure development efforts.

The ministry also reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that road projects across Ghana meet the required construction standards. It pointed to inspection tours conducted by the minister and other officials as part of efforts to monitor ongoing projects and assess the work being carried out by contractors.

Additionally, the ministry urged journalists, social media users and the general public to verify the origin and accuracy of videos before sharing them online.

It stressed that misleading information about infrastructure projects could create unnecessary confusion and distort public understanding of road construction activities.

The controversy has renewed attention on the importance of verifying viral footage before drawing conclusions about the quality of public infrastructure. While the ministry maintains that the video originated in Liberia, the clarification highlights the need to establish the source and context of such content before attributing responsibility to a particular country or government agency.
