APlus Tells NPP Not To Blame Mahama If Court Case On Presidential Term Limit Doesn’t Go Their Way
The Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as APlus, has cautioned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) against blaming President John Dramani Mahama should its Supreme Court case over the interpretation of the presidential term limit not go in its favour.
In a post on his official Facebook page on October 28, 2026, the legislator reacted to news that the NPP is heading to the apex court over the matter. The post came shortly after reports of the party’s decision began circulating online.
“The court is sitting at ‘it’s somewhere.’ The court has not called you. You took your matter there. If it doesn’t go your way don’t blame John Dramani Mahama. Yooooh!” he wrote.
APlus argued that the party took the initiative to approach the Supreme Court and that no one summoned it there. He therefore suggested that the NPP should bear responsibility for the outcome, whatever it may be, rather than looking for someone to blame. His choice of words, in his characteristic style, was a pointed reminder that those who initiate legal action must be ready to accept its consequences.
The comment reflects the sharp political exchanges that often follow legal and constitutional disputes in Ghana. Matters touching on constitutional interpretation, particularly those involving the presidency, tend to draw strong reactions from politicians, party supporters and ordinary citizens alike. Social media users are expected to weigh in on both the NPP’s decision to seek the court’s interpretation and the MP’s pointed warning.
Under Ghana’s Constitution, the Supreme Court has exclusive jurisdiction over the interpretation and enforcement of constitutional provisions. Its rulings are final and binding on all parties, making such cases of considerable national importance.
The question of presidential term limits is a significant constitutional matter, and any interpretation by the apex court could shape the country’s political landscape. As the case proceeds, observers say the outcome will be closely watched by political actors and citizens across the country.
