Abigail Kubeka salary at Generations leaves Mzansi stunned

Abigail Kubeka has shown that age is just a number. The veteran singer, songwriter and actress has stayed relevant in South African entertainment for decades. Many viewers know her as Zondiwe Mogale on SABC1’s Generations: The Legacy, the mother of Tau Mogale and Tshidi Phakade.

She was born and raised in Soweto. Her mother washed clothes to support the family, while her father worked in a warehouse. Kubeka attended a missionary boarding school in Kilnerton, near Pretoria. She developed a love for singing at a young age, especially during a time when jazz was popular in South African communities.

She still lives in Soweto, where she raised her two children. Over the years she has performed in cabaret, stage musicals, dramas, sitcoms, reviews and films. She also does corporate entertainment.

Her music career began early. In the 1950s, when she was about 16, Miriam Makeba invited her to join the all-girl group The Skylarks. Soon after that she joined the chorus of the musical King Kong and travelled to London with the show.

On television, she joined Generations: The Legacy in 2014 and became one of its long-serving cast members. She has also appeared in other productions, including Queen Sono.

After her success on Generations, many people began asking how much she earns. Some reports claim she is paid about R60 000 a month, which would place her among the better-paid actors on the show. These figures have not been officially confirmed by the SABC or the production.

Gossip sites have also estimated her net worth at around $800 000 and described her home in Maseko Street, Orlando West, as one of the most striking houses on the quiet street, with a neat lawn and well-kept walls. These claims should be treated as unverified.

What is not in doubt is her long career and the respect she has earned from Mzansi viewers.
