Wike Unleashes Fresh Attack on Atiku, Nigerians Won’t Entrust Nigeria to ‘Political Gamblers’

According to report by Vanguard on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and national leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, Nyesom Wike, has said Nigerians will not entrust the country’s leadership to what he described as “political gamblers” in the 2027 general election.

Wike, who appeared to target former Rivers State governor and African Democratic Congress vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, also criticised the presidential ticket of Atiku Abubakar and Amaechi.

He alleged that financial mismanagement occurred during Amaechi’s tenure as Rivers governor between 2007 and 2015.

Speaking on Tuesday in Port Harcourt during the unveiling of candidates for the Rainbow Coalition, Wike alleged that $10 million was spent on mosquito fumigation, while $39 million was reportedly paid for a proposed 1,000-bed Justice Karibi-Whyte Specialist Hospital.

He also alleged that the Omoku gas turbine was sold for $308 million in December 2014, which he valued at about N419 billion.

According to Wike, he assumed office six months later and allegedly found only $308,000 remaining from the transaction.

The minister said the Rainbow Coalition was formed to unite members of different political parties behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.

He maintained that there was no faction in the PDP and claimed that the Independent National Electoral Commission recognised Abdulraman Mohammed as the party’s national chairman.

Wike further urged PDP members across the country to support Tinubu in 2027, insisting that the coalition was not created to generate political conflict.

Meanwhile, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara unveiled Kingsley Chinda as the APC governorship candidate under the Rainbow Coalition, alongside candidates representing other parties in the alliance.

Fubara also cautioned his supporters against referring to him as the political leader of Rivers State, saying the leadership role now belonged to his “General Overseer.”

Accepting his nomination, Chinda promised an inclusive administration involving all political parties, religions and ethnic groups. He declared that Rivers politics would no longer operate on a winner-takes-all basis.

Under the coalition’s arrangement, the APC received two Senate slots and 10 House of Representatives positions, while the PDP got one Senate seat and three House seats.

Assembly positions were also shared between the APC and PDP, with the APC receiving the larger share.
