Wamumbi Takes on Ndindi Nyoro Over Ruto Criticism, Questions His Business Interests

Mathira Member of Parliament Eric Wamumbi has taken a swipe at Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, accusing him of applying double standards in his criticism of President William Ruto’s business interests while remaining silent about similar activities involving other political leaders.

In a statement shared on Facebook, Wamumbi questioned Nyoro’s political position and challenged him to explain what he described as a sudden rise in his business interests after becoming chairman of the National Assembly’s Budget and Appropriations Committee.

“Ndindi Nyoro unatuona magoti yako sana, si ndio?” Wamumbi wrote, in a direct message challenging the Kiharu legislator.

The Mathira MP went on to raise questions about Nyoro’s alleged acquisition of shares in Kenya Power, asking where the money used to purchase them came from. He did not provide evidence in the post to substantiate the allegation.

“Wewe ulifanywa chairman wa budget all over sudden you became the majority share holder at KPLC, Niseme kwenye ulitoa hizo pesa ama nisiseme?” he added.

Wamumbi also defended former President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, arguing that both have been involved in business for years. He questioned why Nyoro appeared to criticise President Ruto over business activities while, in his view, treating the other two leaders differently.

“His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta is a business man, has always been a business man.

“RiggyG is a business man, and has always been a business man.

“Hao huwasomei lakini William Ruto akifanya biashara unapiga kelele kutoka asubuhi mpaka jioni,” he stated.

Wamumbi concluded by telling Nyoro to take a clear political position, warning that he would reveal more information if the Kiharu MP continued with his criticism.

“Huwezi kua mole pande zote mbili bro, kaa pande moja.

“Na ukiendelea niko na maneno yako ya kusema,” he added.

The latest exchange comes amid growing disagreements among opposition-aligned leaders in the Mount Kenya region ahead of the 2027 General Election. Nyoro, who leads the People’s Party of Kenya (PPK), has faced accusations from allies of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua that his political activities could weaken the opposition by splitting support in the region.

Nyoro has rejected claims that he is a government mole, maintaining that he is committed to opposing President Ruto’s re-election. On October 22, he accused leaders associated with Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) of conducting a campaign to damage his reputation by repeatedly portraying him as a government project.

The dispute has also involved allegations about financial support during the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election held in July 2026. Nyoro previously said he contributed money towards the DCP candidate’s campaign, claiming that the recipients acknowledged the support. Nyandarua Senator John Methu, a senior DCP official, has denied receiving the money and challenged Nyoro to identify the person who allegedly received it.

Nyoro has maintained that his contribution was intended to support the campaign and send a political message to President Ruto. The conflicting accounts have added to tensions between the Kiharu MP and leaders associated with Gachagua’s political camp.

Wamumbi’s latest remarks appear to reflect the wider struggle over political loyalty, business interests and influence within the Mount Kenya region as leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections. However, his allegations concerning Nyoro’s alleged Kenya Power shareholding remain claims made in the social media post and have not been independently established by the information available.
