Toluwanisings’ Grandmother Breaks Silence, Reveals Last Time She Saw Late Singer

According to a report by Punch on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, Sabitiyu Olayemi, the grandmother of late Nigerian gospel singer Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, popularly known as Toluwanisings, has alleged that the singer neglected her for years before his death.

Olayemi made the allegations during an interview with journalist Dunmininu in Osun State, which was uploaded on social media on Monday. She claimed that she had helped care for the singer and his mother before he relocated to Lagos but had not seen him for more than five years.

The grandmother said she knew her grandson was a musician but was unaware that he had built a house or organised a housewarming ceremony. She also recalled that Toluwanisings once visited her with his wife and first child. However, she alleged that he rarely provided financial assistance afterwards.

According to Olayemi, she eventually contacted the singer through someone in her community to complain about his absence. She said he explained that work had prevented him from checking on her. She claimed that he subsequently sent her ₦10,000 on about three occasions but stopped providing financial support afterwards.

The grandmother further alleged that when her mobile phone became damaged, she asked the singer’s elder sibling to help her contact him for a replacement. However, she claimed that the sibling advised her not to call him.

Asked whether Toluwanisings provided her with medication or money for medical expenses, Olayemi said he did not send her anything. Despite the alleged neglect, she expressed sadness over his death, saying she still regarded him as her child and had been deeply affected by the loss.

Beyond her allegations, Olayemi also opposed plans to bury the singer in a cemetery, insisting that his remains should be interred at his house.

The disagreement over the burial arrangements has also involved the singer’s father, Muniru Adekunle Olayemi, who previously said he wanted his son buried either in the house he built or beside his late mother in Osun State.

The father also disputed reports that the singer was 44 years old at the time of his death, maintaining that he was 34. Meanwhile, a man identified as the singer’s uncle, Lawal Ademola, has called for an impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
