Ruto Launches KSh 70 Billion Devki Cement Plant in Kitui, Promises Jobs and Economic Growth

President William Ruto has broken ground for a KSh 70 billion cement and clinker manufacturing plant in Ngaaie, Mwingi North Constituency, Kitui County.

The project, owned by Devki Group, is expected to boost Kenya’s manufacturing sector, create employment opportunities and support businesses in the Eastern region.

Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho, who accompanied the President during the groundbreaking ceremony, said the investment was a major step towards strengthening Kenya’s industrial sector.

Joho described the project as a vote of confidence in the country’s economic potential and the Government’s efforts to encourage private sector investment.

Beyond creating jobs, the plant is expected to stimulate local businesses and support infrastructure development in Kitui County and neighbouring areas.

The CS also highlighted the importance of processing locally available raw materials into finished products instead of relying heavily on imports.

“The establishment of this plant also underscores the importance of value addition in unlocking the full potential of our natural resources,” Joho said.

He added that expanding local manufacturing capacity would help Kenya reduce its dependence on imported construction materials while retaining more economic value within the country.

The KSh 70 billion investment marks a significant development for Kitui County, with expectations that it will open new economic opportunities for residents and strengthen the country’s industrial growth.
