Robert Marawa Reacts As Gayton McKenzie Acts To Fix FNB Stadium Before Big Match

Sports broadcaster Robert Marawa has drawn fresh attention to urgent matters at FNB Stadium, sharing reports that newly appointed Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie has visited the venue to inspect conditions ahead of the highly anticipated Soweto Derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates. The minister has made it clear that serious concerns over public access, crowd flow, and spectator safety must be addressed before the historic fixture can proceed.

McKenzie’s intervention comes amid long-standing complaints from fans and stakeholders — ranging from congestion at entry gates to inadequate facilities and delays in clearing turnstiles. His hands-on approach has been framed as a direct attempt to ensure that the tens of thousands expected to attend can do so safely, comfortably, and without incident. Marawa’s amplification of the report has placed the spotlight firmly on whether these improvements can be delivered in time for kickoff.

Social media has responded with a mix of optimism and scepticism. Some have welcomed the minister’s proactive stance, saying decisive leadership has been lacking for too long. Others have questioned whether meaningful change is possible in such a short timeframe, or whether the visit amounts to little more than a public relations exercise. As the countdown to the derby continues, all eyes remain on FNB Stadium — and on whether the promises made will translate into a smoother, safer experience for the supporters who make the match one of Africa’s greatest sporting occasions.
