R1.3m diesel tanker seized in Middelburg
Two men were arrested in Middelburg’s CBD after police seized a fuel tanker carrying 16 000 litres of suspected stolen diesel valued at approximately R500 000.
A white Mercedes-Benz tanker was stopped on Walter Sisulu Street, near Mandela Drive, at about 22:00 on October 26.
The suspects, aged 20 and 27, allegedly failed to produce proof of purchase or documents authorising them to transport the diesel.
The fuel was valued at approximately R500 000, while the tanker was worth an estimated R850 000, bringing the combined value to approximately R1.35m.
Members of the Nkangala Anti-Hijacking Task Team made the arrests during stop-and-search operations in Middelburg, which is a known transportation route.
The two suspects are expected to appear in the Middelburg Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of suspected stolen property.
