‘Power, Money and Security’: Bafarawa Says Tinubu Can End Northern Insecurity in One Month

According to a report by Daily Post on Tuesday October 27, 2026, former Sokoto State Governor Attahiru Bafarawa has declared that he would support President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections if the administration restores peace to Sokoto State and other parts of northern Nigeria affected by insecurity.

Speaking to FRI, an online Hausa media outlet, Bafarawa said his support would depend on the government’s ability to end insecurity and enable residents to resume their daily activities.

“My only condition for allowing my vote to go to President Tinubu is for him to ensure peace and allow full normalcy to return to my area and other Northern parts,” he said.

The former governor argued that the President had sufficient authority, financial resources and security institutions to make a significant difference within a short period.

“As a leader who has power, money and security, three months or even one month is enough for him to change the insecurity narrative in the Northern region,” Bafarawa said.

He stressed that he was not seeking campaign funds or personal benefits, but wanted markets, schools, farms and other economic activities to resume in affected communities.

Bafarawa lamented that children were unable to attend school, farmers feared returning to their land and some communities had been displaced by attacks. Although he said he was not a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), he maintained that he would vote for any candidate who restored security, including Tinubu.

He also claimed to have met Tinubu only once since the President assumed office, during an encounter at a mosque. Bafarawa alleged that an individual who had been asked to facilitate a meeting with the President later refused to do so and blocked his telephone numbers.

Meanwhile, Bafarawa defended former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari’s acceptance of his appointment as director-general of Tinubu’s re-election campaign, despite continuing bandit attacks in Zamfara.

He said Yari, an APC member, was expected to respect the party’s decision and could hardly reject an appointment from the President.

Bafarawa added that Yari had consulted several people before accepting the position and sought further advice afterwards, describing the process as evidence of his integrity.
