Old Lawyer Meets New Lawyer — Tension and Smiles As Wontumi’s GH¢30m Case Begins
Drama at the Accra High Court this morning as Chairman Wontumi’s legal team came face to face.
Samuel Atta Akyea, the lawyer for Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has arrived at the Accra High Court for today’s hearing in the GH¢30 million Exim Bank loan case.
Before entering the Law Court Complex, Atta Akyea was seen engaging his former lawyer, Andy Appiah-Kubi — a moment that caught the attention of many at the court premises.
Andy Appiah-Kubi is a former lawyer for Wontumi and a well-known NPP figure. The two lawyers were seen in a brief chat, exchanging pleasantries before walking into the court.
Today’s hearing is a crucial one. Wontumi, who is currently serving a 20-year sentence at Nsawam Prison, is being tried over an alleged GH¢30 million fraud involving the Ghana Export-Import Bank. He has already pleaded not guilty to five charges including defrauding by false pretence, uttering forged documents, money laundering, and causing financial loss to the state.
Samuel Atta Akyea arrived looking confident and ready to defend his client as the court prepares for case management.
All eyes are now inside the courtroom as the GH¢30 million case continues.
