Oburu’s Family Member Breaks Silence on His Health Condition After Visiting Him

Photos of ODM leader Oburu Oginga relaxing at home with his nephew, Raila Odinga Junior, have offered Kenyans the clearest sign yet that the veteran politician is recovering, days after he was discharged from hospital.

Raila Junior posted the images on TikTok on October 27, 2026.

One shows the two men seated side by side on a couch, with the nephew reading a newspaper, while another shows both looking straight into the camera. Both appear calm and in good spirits.

The pictures come after weeks of worry about Oburu’s health and whereabouts.

The elder statesman, who is the older brother of the late Raila Odinga, missed several public events, including his brother’s first memorial. His absence from such a high-profile occasion was widely noticed and set off speculation online.

Some social media users went as far as claiming that Oburu had died.

The rumours grew so loud that members of his family and senior ODM leaders had to step forward to dismiss them. They confirmed that he was alive but had been unwell and was receiving medical care. He was later discharged from Nairobi Hospital.

Against that background, Raila Junior’s decision to visit his uncle and share the moment publicly appeared deliberate.

The gesture served as both a show of family solidarity and a direct reassurance to Kenyans who had been anxious about the ODM leader.

The health scare also came at an emotional time for the Odinga family, who are still coming to terms with the loss of Raila. Oburu, a major figure in Kenyan politics in his own right, has not yet made a public statement on his recovery.
