Mtito Andei Road Tragedy: Names of 3 Pastors Killed in Church Bus Crash Revealed

Three pastors from Mombasa’s Bangladesh informal settlement were among 24 people killed when a church bus collided with a cargo truck along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway on Sunday, October 25, 2026.

The tragic accident occurred at around 7:45 am at Kanga, near Mtito Andei, as members of the Mombasa Pastors Fellowship travelled back to the coastal city after attending the burial of a fellow clergyman in western Kenya.

According to eyewitness accounts, the bus, which belonged to Power of the Word International Church, crashed into a cargo truck while attempting to overtake.

Twenty passengers died at the scene, while four others later succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment.

Three Pastors Identified Among the Victims

The accident has plunged several churches in Mombasa into mourning following the deaths of three prominent religious leaders from the Bangladesh settlement.

Those identified among the victims are Pastor Joseph Vura of Campaign for Salvation and Healing Ministry Church, Apostle Fonex Paul of River of Restoration Church, and Pastor Isaac Juma of Grace Healing Church.

The three had joined other members of the fellowship in travelling to western Kenya to attend the funeral of Reverend Kanan, a fellow minister and colleague.

Their deaths have left congregations in Changamwe and neighbouring areas devastated, with church members gathering for prayer vigils as news of the tragedy spread.

The 24 survivors were taken to Makindu Sub-County Hospital, Kibwezi Hospital and Mtito Andei Hospital for treatment.

Church leaders have appealed to the government to provide specialised medical care for those who sustained critical injuries and remain under hospital care.

Families and fellow worshippers are now grappling with the loss as they await further updates on the condition of the injured.

Second Major Accident Involving Mombasa Worshippers

The latest crash has renewed concerns about road safety along the busy Nairobi-Mombasa highway, following another fatal accident involving religious travellers earlier this month.

On October 3, 2026, 17 Catholic pilgrims from Mikindani, Mombasa, died in a separate road accident along the same highway.

The two tragedies have dealt a heavy blow to Mombasa’s religious community, leaving families and congregations mourning dozens of worshippers within a matter of weeks.
