“More Questions to Answer Than the Foreign Minister” — Sammy Ayeh Slams JoyNews Journalist
Sammy Ayeh, a Senior Presidential Staffer seeking to become the National Communications Director of the NDC, has questioned JoyNews journalist Isaac Kofi Agyei’s reporting on the evacuation of Ghanaian nationals from South Africa.
In a post on his official Facebook page on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, Ayeh argued that Agyei had more questions to answer than Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa. He also dismissed the journalist’s work as “empty.”
The comments come amid controversy surrounding the GH¢49.72 million spent on bringing 1,964 Ghanaians home from South Africa following reports of xenophobic attacks and intimidation against foreign nationals.
Agyei, the Head of Research at Multimedia Group, reportedly raised concerns during Joy FM’s Newsfile programme on October 24, 2026. He said he had spoken with three evacuees who allegedly received GH¢2,000 rather than the GH¢5,500 government allowance intended to cover reintegration and transportation costs.
The journalist also questioned whether some evacuees had received the GH¢5,000 reintegration payment without the additional GH¢500 transportation allowance. Concerns were further raised about documentation confirming receipt of the funds.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs subsequently requested the names and contact information of the individuals involved, as well as supporting details, so it could investigate the allegations and establish whether the correct payments had been made.
Ayeh’s criticism has intensified public discussion about the evacuation programme, particularly regarding the distribution of funds and the need for accountability. The claims remain subject to verification, and no conclusive findings on the alleged discrepancies have been provided in the report.
